Job Description

Atopic dermatitis is a common inflammatory skin disease that affects 20% of children and 11% adults in Singapore. The National University of Singapore (NUS) via the Singapore Lipidomics Incubator (SLING), Department of Biochemistry, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, invites applications for a Research Assistant to work on an exciting interdisciplinary project for molecular characterisation of atopic dermatitis. Appointment will be made on a one-year contract basis in the first instance, with the possibility of extension for at least one more year. The position is available with immediate effect.

Purpose of the post

The project aims at characterisation of the skin surface lipids in relation to clinical phenotypes in Singapore population using novel sampling and LC-MS/MS methodology.

Main duties and responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Clinical sample collection, storage and processing in coordination with clinical collaborators. 

Lipid extraction and analysis using state-of-the-art liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry systems and data analysis.

We offer cutting-edge mass spectrometry facilities and training in advanced analytical methods in biomedical sciences. A friendly atmosphere and collaborations between different departments at NUS and NUH and with international institutions.

Qualifications

The successful candidate should possess the following qualities:

Bachelors/Masters in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biomedical sciences or equivalent experience

Experience in handling of human biological materials is a must.

Experience with LC-MS/MS method development and validation is a must.

Experience with LC-MS/MS data analytics would be an advantage.

Good communication skills: fluent in spoken and written English.

Meticulous and reliable work attitude.

Capable of working in a fast-paced, multinational environment.

Additional Info

The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of his/her project in coordination with the supervisor and other members of the group, as well as for routine laboratory management duties (shared between all laboratory members).

Remuneration will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
